The Reality of Redemption

TEXTS: Romans 3:21; Colossians 1:13, 14
WORD STUDY: The word “inheritance” found in (Colossians 1:12) literally means, “lot”, “portion” or “a person’s share”. The Greek term is {Gr: klēros} which has several meanings, also from where we get the word “Clergy” which means “in Charge”. But focusing on our text, the context in Col. 1:12 is [Gr: kleronomia], “an inheritance,”. This can also be found in Act 26:18. It deals with what God has in grace assigned to the sanctified or believers in Christ. The other keyword “light” [Gr: phōs] talks about God as Light. He is both the Source and the Light. Therefore, believers have inheritance in Christ, the Source of Life and everything that exists just as light is the source of life.
INTRODUCTION: Redemption has been a theological word in the minds of most believers, but Apostle Paul, through the Holy Spirit is giving us a deeper understanding of the word. It is redemption that made our righteousness possible. The Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul speaks of a Righteousness that comes to man only through faith in Jesus Christ, and belongs to all those who acknowledge Christ as Saviour and confess Him as their Lord. They are justified freely on the ground of grace, through the Redemption that God laid our sins and diseases upon Jesus- that ‘Him who knew no sin, God made to become sin that we might become the righteousness of god in Him.” 2 Cor. 5:21
